007.

Ahem.

Had we but world enough, and time,
This coyness, lady, were no crime.
We would sit down and think which way
To walk, and pass our long love's day;

My vegetable love should grow
Vaster than empires, and more slow.

An hundred years should go to praise
Thine eyes, and on thy forehead gaze;
Two hundred to adore each breast,
But thirty thousand to the rest;

An age at least to every part,
And the last age should show your heart.
For, lady, you deserve this state,
Nor would I love at lower rate.

But at my back I always hear
Time's winged chariot hurrying near;
And yonder all before us lie
Deserts of vast eternity.

Thy beauty shall no more be found,
Nor, in thy marble vault, shall sound
My echoing song; then worms shall try
That long preserv'd virginity,
And your quaint honour turn to dust,
And into ashes all my lust.

The grave's a fine and private place,
But none I think do there embrace.

Now therefore, while the youthful hue
Sits on thy skin like morning dew,
And while thy willing soul transpires
At every pore with instant fires,

Now let us sport us while we may;
And now, like am'rous birds of prey,
Rather at once our time devour,
Than languish in his slow-chapp'd power.
Let us roll all our strength, and all
Our sweetness, up into one ball;
And tear our pleasures with rough strife
Thorough the iron gates of life.

Thus, though we cannot make our sun
Stand still, yet we will make him run.

Won't you reconsider?

Chivalry, huh? And how long does that last?

Not quite.

[identity profile] el-legendaire.livejournal.com 2008-11-29 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
Until the lady makes her final decision, of course.

Darn.

[identity profile] covert-chord.livejournal.com 2008-11-29 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
And then it flies out the window?

[identity profile] el-legendaire.livejournal.com 2008-11-29 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
Well, to be a perfect example of chivalry I believe you're supposed to keep pining for and praising the lady in question forever, even if she explicitly turns you down and wants nothing to do with you.

But that seems somewhat extreme to me.

[identity profile] covert-chord.livejournal.com 2008-11-29 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't know that that was the definition. I thought it was just mainly being proper to a lady.

[identity profile] el-legendaire.livejournal.com 2008-11-29 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
It's been a while. I think the strict definition had a lot of multi-syllable words in it that I didn't bother memorizing.

[identity profile] covert-chord.livejournal.com 2008-11-29 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know the actual dictionary definition, but I'm fairly sure that's the understood gist of it.

[identity profile] el-legendaire.livejournal.com 2008-11-29 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
Well then. You don't think I'm capable of sustained proper behavior?

[identity profile] el-legendaire.livejournal.com 2008-11-29 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
When have I ever given you reason to doubt my gentlemanly conduct?

[identity profile] covert-chord.livejournal.com 2008-11-29 06:55 am (UTC)(link)
It's just a general feeling I get.

[identity profile] el-legendaire.livejournal.com 2008-11-29 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
Oh I see. Woman's intuition, huh?

[identity profile] el-legendaire.livejournal.com 2008-11-29 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
I thought so. A little bit.

You worry too much, mister Haptism. Your captain is quite able to take care of herself, don't you think?

[identity profile] covert-chord.livejournal.com 2008-11-29 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
She's technically our tactician, not captain, but... Nonetheless, I'm still going to be a little protective.
